“Every Day” by Magic Man

BoxSpeaker’s been late to the game the past two weeks in terms of new track releases!

Magic Man released their latest track “Every Day” a few days ago.

“Every Day” is a faster-tempo track that’s actually happy and hopeful about love. (“I’m just waiting, waiting for the girl who was there when I was drifting off the world – just to get some just to get some love. Every day every day every day I want you in my life – And I wait and I wait and I wait – I never give up.”) Continue reading “Every Day” by Magic Man

“Your Four Limbs” by (Kurran and) the Wolfnotes

“Your Four Limbs” by the Wolfnotes (formerly known as Kurran and the Wolfnotes) is a haunting yet simple track. An old track in the Wolfnotes’ discography, which now contains sad harmonica-laced songs and blues-inspired Fender Telecaster (or maybe a semi-hollow guitar) notes, “Your Four Limbs” began The Wolfnotes’ theme of heartfelt alt-country tracks of longing.

[NEW:] “Garden Grays” by Wildcat! Wildcat!

Yesterday, Wildcat! Wildcat! released their new song “Garden Grays” – a cheery, track with staccato synths and Wildcat! Wildcat!’s signature drawn out, soulful vocals.

They were amazing at San Francisco’s Brick and Mortar early this summer, and are starting an East Coast/MidWest tour with two other BoxSpeaker favorites (Black Light Dinner Party and Savoir Adore) next month.

[TRACK ALERT:] RAC’s Upcoming Single is an MNDR, Kele Triplehitter

The production, DJ, and remix genius that is RAC is giving everyone a preview of his upcoming single “Let Go” featuring MNDR and Kele (of Bloc Party fame) on vocals!

RAC is one of my all-time favorite producer/DJ/remixers – everything he touches is gold. While my introductions to RAC were much different from his current releases (his remix of “Zero” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs was electro/electrorock and his remix of “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes stripped the original’s folksy orchestrations, sped it up, and added layers through various loops), he has definitely helped develop the indie dance nu-disco genre with his newer work.

“Bravado” by Lorde + FFFRRANNNO Remix

Lorde is the latest breakout artist who actually spent very little time in the indie blog ether before making it not big but huge. (It’s important to consider the fact that she was signed on Universal Records 3 years ago when she was only 13, so she was basically destined for the fame she’s garnering now.)

Reminds me of how Chloe Chaidez from KITTEN began singing on stage with Band of Horses early on in her career (when she was 11).

Anyway, Lorde is proving herself as New Zealand’s own Marina and the Diamonds but with a lighter sound (both in vocals and in beats – more closed hi-hats, less bass).

Chela – BoxSpeaker’s Latest Electro Crush

All aboard the SS BoxSpeaker – headed straight to Melbourne with sights set on the latest BoxSpeaker crush Chela.

Featured as vocals in Goldroom’s track “Fifteen” last year.

Followed by a gigs as vocals on Viceroy’s “Dream of Bombay.”

Then having her single “Full Moon” remixed by Sterling Silver.

Just last week, the Gold Fields remix of her song “Romanticise” was featured by Kitsune Maison – one of the best French record label/tastemaker combos.

Chela is really making a name for herself, especially as the self-proclaimed “new oriental disco heathen goddess on the block.”
