Hailing from Brisbane with a smooth bassline, echoing vocal loops, and tempo changes to match your Friday night, “No Lungs” is bound to be added to your sex playlist, right next to The Weeknd, BANKS, and Chela.

Parts of “Flyaway” by Keep Shelly in Athens have a late 90s Everything But The Girl feel – mostly the sudden eruption of hi-hats and snare beats at the 57-second mark that juxtapose the relaxed, even lounge-y slow space-y 4-note riffs and breathy 2-lines of vocals that preceeded it, which are actually sandwiched by the staccato notes that the song began with.

Despite those staccato notes, Kelly P’s vocals keep the song leveled, like a moment of clarity in the middle of a cocaine binge.

“Bravado” by Lorde + FFFRRANNNO Remix

Lorde is the latest breakout artist who actually spent very little time in the indie blog ether before making it not big but huge. (It’s important to consider the fact that she was signed on Universal Records 3 years ago when she was only 13, so she was basically destined for the fame she’s garnering now.)

Reminds me of how Chloe Chaidez from KITTEN began singing on stage with Band of Horses early on in her career (when she was 11).

Anyway, Lorde is proving herself as New Zealand’s own Marina and the Diamonds but with a lighter sound (both in vocals and in beats – more closed hi-hats, less bass).

So one thing I’ve noticed while checking my site’s Google Analytics is that people keep finding my blog by searching “Lauren Mayberry boyfriend” and similar terms. In fact, someone even found my blog by searching “Lauren+Mayberry+lesbian” – crazy right?

Let me set the record straight for all the people searching “Lauren Mayberry Boyfriend” and the one person who searched “Lauren+Mayberry+Lesbian.”

I have the biggest celebrity crush on Lauren Mayberry. If she said she professed her love for me, then I’d take her right to NYC and same-sex-marry her.

So who is Lauren Mayberry’s boyfriend? Is Lauren Mayberry a lesbian? Is BoxSpeaker Bernie actually Lauren Mayberry’s secret girlfriend?

The answer to all that is: I DON’T KNOW. Well, except the last one – sadly, I’m not her secret girlfriend 🙁 I have my informed hypotheses, but I won’t disclose them. 🙂
