The Dreamiest of Dream Pop: Say Lou Lou

Say Lou Lou (formerly Saint Lou Lou) refer to themselves as “DREAM WAVE LOVE”.

This Swedish-Australian duo are the epitome of dream pop: The heavy distorted beats engulf you while their soft, soothing voices lure you further in.

Note: It can’t be ignored that the members of Say Lou Lou are also both extremely hot – I mean they do come from two countries with the sexiest populations…

[SF:] Breakdown Valentine

If CHVRCHES, Blondie, and The Sounds had a threesome band baby, it would be San Francisco’s Breakdown Valentine.

This electropop / electro rock duo brings dark wave influences to dream pop and adds in sultry vocals.

“Lullaby” has more of a Blondie and The Sounds 80s feel while “There Will Be Blood” sounds like a slowed down CHVRCHES track with an American accent.

If you’re in San Francisco, check them out tonight at PopScene at the Rickshaw Stop!

“Lullaby”

“There Will Be Blood”

Not gonna lie – I love this track because of its CHVRCHES synths and because There Will Be Blood is one of my favorite movies.

“Feel” by Dead Times for Stella McCartney Autumn-Winter 2013-2014

Dead Times is a Los Angeles-based electro, “alternative R&B” group. However, I discovered them while I was in Bristol because they were connected to a Valentina track via SoundCloud.

To add even more international connections, their track “Feel” was featured in the Vogue Paris video of Stella McCartney’s 2013-2014 autumn-winter collection.

I got chills and literally was at my desk with my mouth hanging open. This video and also the Free People ad featuring Freja Beha and a depressing Mal Blum song are two examples of the amazing intersection of music and fashion. This and all the fun I had putting together a playlist for Work It, Berk seriously made me lock down my decision to finally pursue DJing fashion shows.

EVERYTHING CONVERGES:

[VIDEO:] “Recover” by CHVRCHES

Today, CHVRCHES released a video for their latest single “Recover.”

The new video is a mostly CGI exploration of a futuristic post-apocalyptic world. Black cubes floating around in an otherwise empty, dead former metropolis.

You see the band on black-and-white screens for just a few seconds – portraying the last remnants of humanity.

To be honest, as shown by this CHVRCHES binge, I wouldn’t mind if this were the last song on the planet.

Ghost Beach’s Josh Ocean’s sometimes spastic, staccato vocals are complemented by Noosa’s slower, soulful lines.

“Apparition” by Frank + Derol

As all 4 of you know, I’ve really been into ghost songs lately.

Here’s another ghost-related song called “Apparition” by Frank + Derol.

Frank + Derol are a semi-electro / dreampop / garage rock sounding Los Angeles duo – Codi Caraco and the as of yet lesser-known Cyrus daughter Brandi Cyrus.

They’re opening with Kitten at tonight’s Sir Sly show at the Casbah in San Diego!
